ALABAMA LEARNING EXCHANGE (ALEX):
ALEX, or The Alabama Learning Exchange is a very informative site for educators, students and parents. ALEX, has many types of educational information that will benefit many people. As well, this site is good for combining ideas and thoughts throughout the online community. When you look deeper into ALEX, you not only find the course standards, but a lesson plan that is able to go along with each of those standards. For teachers who are looking for a broader subject, ALEX also provides Unit plans, and the lessons/ course standards that go within. Each person is able to locate what they want by looking through the courses of study, activities, going straight to the unit/lesson plans, your own personal workspace, and more. In the future when I am an educator I will rely a great deal on ALEX, because of the community it possesses, as well as, the effectiveness of the site as a whole. ALEX is very helpful in not just a couple but many ways, and most everyone can gain something from it.
ALABAMA CONNECTING CLASSROOMS, EDUCATORS, AND STUDENTS STATEWIDE (ACCESS):
Alabama Connecting Classrooms, Educators, and Students Statewide, or more commonly known as ACCESS, is a series of online-based videos, assignments and meetings held in one place. It is available for all educators and students in Alabama whom have access to technology. As well, ACCESS wants to be able to provide the highest quality of instruction to all of the users by giving them equal access. This program, more specifically, gives students the opportunity to be placed in Advanced Placement (AP) classes, more electives, and some other classes that they may not have been able to take directly at their school. I believe that this program would be helpful to students who need to have more challenging classes that are not available to them. When I am teaching, I would love to be able to use this program with some of my students.
ALABAMA MATH, SCIENCE, AND TECHNOLOGY INITIATIVE (AMSTI):
The Alabama Math, Science and Technology Initiative, or AMSTI, focuses on trying to improve the teaching of math and science statewide. AMSTI also provides workshops and conferences for teachers to attend. At these workshops, they provide personal development skills, equipment and materials for the educators, and on-site support for anyone who needs it. AMSTI’s goal is promote success within the schools that attend their seminars, as well as help these school districts have higher scores overall. I would love to attend these meetings in the future, because personally math and science are the two hardest subjects for me. I believe this to be a very good resource for educators because of all the materials and support AMSTI gives.
ALABAMA VIRTUAL LIBRARY (AVL):
AVL, or the Alabama Virtual Library, is a free online library that give information and resources to any Alabama resident. Along with the information and resources, it lets the users have access to books, newspapers, journals and different databases. This site is generally pushed more towards students and teachers/adults. AVL offers many different resources, and it seems as if there is plenty of information on most subjects. Overall, I think I would use this site a decent amount, but it would not be my first go to. I would let students use it, but only if they were good at navigating these types of sites as it could be difficult to someone whom does not know.
ALABAMA READING INITIATIVE (ARI):
ARI, which stands for The Alabama Reading Initiative, is a goal for grades Kindergarten through twelfth to have 100% literacy. ARI focuses heavily on reading comprehension and guidance in early years, which helps them in the future to expand their reading strength. The ARI wants to improve all scores as well as have every student meet, or even better-exceed, their grade-level reading standards. With them being so involved in the students’ academic lives, the students are preforming better in their reading comprehension which has helped with reading scores as well as students have been reading more. ARI seems to be very helpful throughout the school systems, and I would greatly like to have it be a part of my classroom. It not only helps the students, but challenges them, and I think that teachers are not challenging their students as much now, so having these systems in place would be very helpful.
